Part 3: London artist’s view of stock listings & the art market

About which market are you thinking when you are creating your stock market paintings?

Gordon Cheung: I am not thinking about a specific market. I am thinking about it as a space. We feel that an economic crisis is like an earthquake; it is a natural event. So strong is its effect, it affects the whole world. For me, it is so interesting to observe it and how I am affected by it.

Looking at art at the moment, it is funny that you – as an artists – are addressing financial bubbles because the art bubble is almost bursting. It is just a question of time when we will see this happening.

Gordon Cheung: This is an interesting question. The art market is called “The last unregulated market”.
